I didn’t want to cook. No one else wanted to cook. So, we ordered Chinese takeout.
However, we didn’t get the usual Chinese takeout because the usual restaurant’s phone line was busy.
To speed up ordering something new, we searched for food through the DoorDash app which recommended Zhong Hua Restaurant in Duluth, MN.

We ordered General Tso’s chicken with plain rice, cream cheese wontons, steamed and fried dumplings, and chicken lo mein. Unfortunately, the Lo Mein didn’t arrive, but everything else did and it tasted pretty good.
The food was definitely above average for Chinese takeout and had generous portions. The rice was sticky, both types of dumplings were delicious, and the cream cheese wontons were the best.
I try few and far between cream cheese wontons, but even I appreciated Zhong Hua’s. They were fried just right – golden and flaky. The shape was different, too; instead of a familiar triangle or square, these were folded in half diagonally, with the cream cheese dolloped in the center, and the top wrapper points scrunched together like a radish.
Best of all, when the food arrived it was still fresh and steamy. When the order was placed, we were given a forty minute ETA. The food arrived in twenty! I’m unsure if that happy surprise was because of Zhong Hua’s preparedness or DoorDash’s quick delivery, but it positively added to the food delivery experience.
Also, when the delivery driver arrived, they made sure to knock loud enough to be heard and wait until someone came to the door. Their reasoning to wait, in Promethean reporter Jackson Wrazidlo’s recollection, was, “So the food doesn’t sit outside long and get cold.”
As far as food and delivery expectations go, reality beat the standards. Yes, the Lo Mein didn’t arrive, but after reporting it missing, DoorDash refunded the item. Besides that, the food that did arrive was filling enough. There was just enough for two meals of leftovers, too.
If you’d like to try some new Chinese food, Zhong Hua Restaurant is open Mon. – Thurs. and Fri. – Sat., 11:00 am – 10:00 pm or 11:00 pm, respectively.
