The UW-Superior women’s track and field team began the season at The Opener at the Burns Wellness Commons at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. on Saturday, Dec. 7, posting 23 personal bests.

Freshman Cassie Skattebo (Shell Lake, Wis./Shell Lake) won the high jump for the Yellowjackets only event win of the day. Skattebo’s mark of 1.50 meters is the top height cleared in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) so far this season.

Junior Abby Lannier (North St. Paul, Minn./North St. Paul) also posted the top triple-jump mark in the conference with an eighth-place distance of 9.59 meters with her second attempt. Lannier finished 11th overall in the triple jump with a mark of 4.20 meters.

Sophomore Nicole Koski (Park Falls, Wis./Chequamegon) finished third in the 5,000-meter run with a career-best time of 22:16.37. Koski finished less than 10 seconds behind the top collegiate competitor in the race, St. Scholastica’s Elizabeth Poskie (22:06.90).

Sophomore Via Prince (Spokane Valley, Wash./University) set an indoor personal best of 1:09.10 in the 400 meters, finishing third in the event.

The ‘Jackets now break for the holidays, returning to action at the Minnesota Open in Minneapolis, Minn. on Jan. 11 at 11:00 a.m.
