The VNSC at UW-Superior
The Veterans and Nontraditional Student Center, a quiet space nestled in the heart of campus, welcomes all students.
With a private study room, an abundance of resources, charging stations, support, snacks, puzzles, and allegedly the best couch on campus, the VNSC staff want UW-Superior to know all they have to offer.
Earlier this semester, a VNSC social event took place. Offering catering and a casual environment, this social has been a regular event for 10+ years.
Collegial bonding and creativity are also spread through new events every semester.
“Really, most of our students are nontraditional students, so it’s really important to try to loop them in,” Lynn Lowney, the VNSC coordinator said.
During spring semester, the center hosted a variety of activities including recent Bob Ross Color by Number, paintball, and upcoming grill out; co-hosted with the Gender Equity Resource Center.
The VNSC is located in Old Main 118. Here, you can find a family-friendly, comfortable space, with three computers, and the alleged best couch on campus.
Peter Nwaokeke, senior officer at the VNSC, says this is his favorite part of the center.
“The best couch on campus… you can study, you can do anything here,” he said.
The VNSC is open every weekday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. They serve veterans and active-duty members, their dependents, students with dependents, married, lactating, online, virtual, and 25+ students; all are welcome.
