The World Student Association held the 26th annual Cultural Night in the Yellowjacket
Union. The event had a theme of global harmony centered around the cultures present at UWSuperior. The event consisted of a meal with eight different cultural dishes, student performances, flag and fashion show, along with a performance by Titambe Drum and Dance Ensemble.

Umi Omoto is the current WSA president and a student from Japan who participated in
the 2025 fashion show. “It was a really nice experience in my life. I could feel that. You could feel the love in the room,” said Omoto.
“If we ever want to talk with American people about our culture because of lack of language, yeah it’s really hard to explain our culture,” said Omoto. “The cultural night helps…them to present our, present their culture and their country.”

Cultural Night had three student performances that featured songs in native languages, and traditional dance from Ethiopia. “Where international students were staying from a different country. So of course we are going to miss our culture, and this is an opportunity for us to expressing it. And also spread people like about our culture, because we are absolute proud of our culture,” said Nhi Phan, a student performer from Vietnam and WSA member who sang Ai
Đưa Em Về by Tia Hai Chau and Lê Thiện Hiếu.

Sarah Lane, the WSA advisor and the international student services coordinator, stated the importance of Cultural Night for the UWS community. “We don’t want to just like acclimate them [international students] to here, but we want to show the university that they can acclimate to the students,” she said. Lane continued to add the importance of the UWS and Superior community coming
together for Cultural Night, “UW-Superior is really unique and that we have a lot of different countries represented…we get to see that kind of physically represented during the flag show,” said Lane. “They [international students] need to be given the opportunity to like show their culture with America and UWS in the campus and feel safe having the opportunity to do that.”
