Both the men’s and women’s hockey seasons have come to an end. The University of Wisconsin-Superior teams made it to the preliminary rounds of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

On the men’s side, things changed this year; instead of two games on the calendar, there is now only one, thus eliminating the need for the mini game. The mini game was only used after two games were played, and each team had won one. The mini game setup is for one 20-minute period. If there is a leader after that, that is your winner; if not, they play 20-minute sudden-death periods, until someone scores.

The men hosted their single game against UW-Stevens Point, the team they had faced in the regular season finale. They fell short and were eliminated from the championship, ending their season. The Yellowjackets ended their season with an overall record of 13-11-2 and a conference record of 6-8-1.

On the women’s side, they still play two games a round, and the mini game is in play for them. Unfortunately, there was no need for a mini-game for the women this year, as they were swept by UW-River Falls. The Yellowjackets ended their season with an overall record of 4-22-1 and a conference record of 4-8.

Although the season is over for both the men’s and women’s hockey teams at UWS, most of the players either look to next season or to their careers after graduation. There is still hockey to be played, as four men’s players have signed professional contracts.
