The future at the University of Wisconsin Superior (UWS) is nursing. Starting in spring semester of 2026, UWS will have a Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) run by Dr. Lorraine Smith. The degree is a collaboration with the BSN@Home program offering fall, spring, and summer courses that are designed to adapt to working nurse schedules.
“Our entry into nursing isn’t just a new degree. It is a promise to our nurses, to our hospitals and to our communities that UW Superior will be a part of the solution to our region’s healthcare needs,” said Chancellor Dr. Renée Wachter at the RN to BNS press conference, “…It’s (the BNS) proof that we listen, we respond, and we deliver making UW-Superior the educational anchor of the North.”

UW-Superior has partnered with local two-year institutions to create a seamless transfer process after a student completes an associate degree through dual enrollment. Through the BSN@Home students can enroll through a home campus through seven schools in the UW-System. The home campus will be where students receive academic support, advising, financial aid, clinical placements, and complete a capstone project entirely online. Dr. Lorraine Smith or Dr. Lo is excited to lead this program at UWS. “…I got yellowjacket fever from day one when I came here and it has been with me ever since,” said Dr. Lo, “I think that what you have here at UW Superior is so special.”
Through the online system, students can complete clinicals at home or in the twin ports. Dr. Lo states that these clinicals count as a BSN Capstone “…Capstone experience is really a community engagement experience,” Dr. Lo continues by saying “Theres a lot of different clinicals and so having it in this region is that you will be able to see an improvement in the health of the population of which they live.”
