On Feb. 12 the Link Center hosted the Prepare for the Fair event to prepare students for the Career Fair. After signing in, Outreach Program Director Thora Papineau and Career Development Manager Liza Shelquist took students on a tour to the different stations they had laid out. In addition to giving game-changing advice, they offered coffee, tea, popcorn, and granola bars to fuel students. There were four total stations. Getting to know the fair, dressing for success, how to write a resume, and practicing networking.
Getting to Know the Fair was the first stop on the tour where they handed out lists of what employers were attending and where they were going to be located, making it easier for students to navigate their way through the fair.
Next up was Dress for Success, where they had a sample of professional clothes on display and they also took students back into their career closet which gives students free professional clothes. They want students to make a good first impression on potential future employers by wearing professional clothes.
Third on the tour was Resume & Business Card Review. They had templates printed off for students to give them an idea of what a resume should look like. In addition to that, they included their business card so students could email copies of their resumes to Career Services before the fair. It takes 1-2 business days for resumes to be checked then returned.

Fourth was Practicing Networking where students got a list on how to first introduce themselves to employers. Thora Papineau says your first impression is important so practicing what you are going to say is beneficial.
Among career services the Link Center has many other departments and benefits for students such as internships, academic service learning, employer relations, and more! Be sure to stop by if you haven’t already. This is a good place on campus to stop for all sorts of career related questions. If you didn’t make it to the Prepare for the Fair event, be sure to check it out for next year.
