The UW-Superior baseball team traveled down to Davenport, Florida, for their spring break to compete in the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational starting on March 10-16.

The team put together an excellent double header game on day one of the trip, by beating Concordia College in both games, with scores of 4-2 and 4-1. Pitching in the first two games against the Cobbers was a key to success as both Zach Romans and Aiden Pfeifer limited Concordia College to just three runs over two games.

The Yellowjackets then played through the sun and sweat all week, competing for an additional six games. Senior Issac Fugere spoke about how this spring break trip can benefit the team.

“The trip was a great way for us to get to spend time building our relationships with each other as well as a great way to gain experience playing good competition! We had a great time and enjoyed being able to play the game we love,” said Fugere.

With a tough loss against Beloit, 2-3, Beloit’s winning run came dramatically with a ninth inning walk-off single. As well as in their fifth game of the week the Yellowjackets struggled early against Stockton University, when they went down seven runs in the second inning.

UWS was able to get the bat swinging later in the game, unfortunately, it was not enough to job done as the Yellowjackets fell 12-14. Alongside a tough week of games under the sun, the Yellowjackets finished off the Russ Matt Central Florida Invitational with a 2-6 record.

As the Yellowjackets return to campus after spring break they are hoping to carry a good run into conference play with hungry eyes set on the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference title.
