As the semester wraps up for me this year the feeling is different than any winter semester. With graduation within reach there’s many memories to look back on but the one that sticks out the most is my decision to transfer from UW-Eau Claire to the school close to home that I originally overlooked.

Once at UW-Superior I found help in many forms as the faculty, teachers, and people on the campus we’re so open to assisting me. However, two staff members stick out with the impacts they made in helping me find my potential. The first blessing came when I was in Swenson Hall and came across “The Promethean” I read a couple stories before I got to the back page and an ad on the back read “Like Sports? Sport writers wanted.”

I went to the office a day later and I was a part of the Promethean crew. There, through the Promethean I met a mentor, teacher, advisor, motivator and most importantly someone who gave me the confidence that I could attain my dreams. Tom Hansen not only pushed me to be the best I could be, but he gave me the space to trust my own creative instincts when it came to writing for the paper or our latest endeavor with Promethean TV.

Tom also introduced me to Jon Garver, who I would call my “professional blessing”. Working for Jon on the Yellowjacket Athletics gave me someone to watch and learn from on how to work professionally (even though I’m sure Jon would tell you I still have a long way to go, hopefully one of these days I remember to clock out…).

The next three years were spent living my dream of working in sports, whether that was interviewing athletes and coaches, working stats for the teams, or learning what great teams do behind the scenes. Thanks to Tom, Jon and all the helpful UWS staff, I was able to turn the opportunities they gave me into many different skills and positions outside of school that will help me in all my future endeavors. Much like the stories in our papers, my stories at UWS will now conclude but will always be a part of my journey.
