The Marcovich Wellness Center has brought a new opportunity for families to the UW-Superior campus.

Starting this past October, once a month from 9 a.m. to Noon, UW-Superior athletics has been hosting a free and open to the public event in the Dr. Lydia C. Thering Fieldhouse. There are countless activities going on throughout the fieldhouse including basketball, volleyball, soccer, crafts, and even some!

Director of Athletics Nick Bursik hopes the event will help, “This event is really about serving our community, we know that in our area there is a need for free family activities, and we are excited to bridge that gap with allowing community members to come to campus, play with our athletes and have some fun.”

Bursik added that the new event would not be possible without their partnership with Superior Choice Credit Union. So far the reception has been well received with over a hundred people attending the event. Bursik believes once the winter hits more families will look to take advantage of the indoor activity.

With many of the student athletes volunteering being education majors they not only get a chance to spend time with the community but use the opportunity to benefit them as they begin to move into their future careers.

Everyone who attends the free event receives an autograph card, a free scoop of custard from Culvers, and a youth ticket to any Yellowjacket sporting event. The next Yellowjacket Family Fun Day is taking place on Saturday, Dec. 9 with the UWS baseball and softball teams.
