UW-Superior hosted the annual Wisconsin vs. Minnesota High School volleyball All-Star game, sponsored by Kern and Kompany. The All-Star teams are composed of the top high school girl volleyball athletes from northern Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Kern and Kompany selected UW-Superior to host this event because of the familiarity of the facilities for team Wisconsin and the proximity to team Minnesota. This event brings awareness to the accomplishments of these volleyball players from the area while allowing them to play on a collegiate court.

Not only does an event like this bring awareness to girls’ high school volleyball, but it also has benefits for the UWS campus as well.

“We get to claim being the home court for this event and the home space. The revenue comes into campus recreation to maintain the facility as well,” said Krisi Patterson director of campus recreation.

A few of these facility maintenance items included the equipment, locker rooms, and the gym floor. The intent was for the All-Star game to be hosted every other year by UWS and the University of Minnesota Duluth. Since 2016, UWS has been a part of hosting this event and hopes to continue to bring this event to campus.

“I am so glad that we get to host it every year and we pretty much have become the site,” said Patterson.

Minnesota trailed 2-1 before coming back for the 3-2 five-set victory.
