Eighth-ranked UW-River Falls scored a pair of power-play goals on its way to a 3-0 win over the UW-Superior women’s hockey team at Wessman Arena on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The win for the Falcons secured the three-game season series, avenging a 2-1 road loss on Jan. 25 to the Yellowjackets.

Erica Schramel opened the scoring for UWRF at 6:19 with an extra skater. The Falcons doubled the lead on a Callie Hoff goal from Hailey Herdine at 8:23 of the second period. Just 19 seconds later, Alyson Niebur added an insurance goal from Madi Nolan to close the scoring.

UWS senior goaltender Catherine Johnson (Lakeville, Minn./St. Paul Academy) made 36 saves. Sami Miller picked up the shutout for the Falcons, stopping 24 Superior shots.

Junior Amanda Sergent (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) and senior Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) paced the UWS offense with four shots apiece. Senior Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) and sophomore C.C. Hayes (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances) each fired three.

The ‘Jackets return to action next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 and 15, in a road series at UW-Stevens Point at 7 and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
