Hold on, folks, it’s time to curl. The University of Wisconsin-Superior has plenty of different clubs the student body can choose from, but one club is making its return next semester.

The UWS Curling Club is officially coming back during the Spring 2025 semester. After previous Curling Club members graduated from UWS, Gift Uchegbu, an international freshman, wants to see the club make its return. “It’s a club that was existing before, but the players have graduated, and there was no one to continue with the club. However, I am very much interested in curling, and I got an opportunity to play in the junior curling championship in Finland in December 2022,” said Uchegbu.

Since the club is still starting up, there is no club president yet; Uchegbu is the only member right now. “I can’t exactly say that I am the president because we haven’t had our club meeting and all. The course advisor and I went to the Superior Curling Club to make inquiries about membership. I paused the opening for a while because students are already embedded in classes, and it’s almost examination period,” said Uchegbu.

The main goal for the start of next semester is to start recruiting members when more people are free. “We haven’t started practicing yet. I’m still trying to get more members to join the club. I also plan to table beginning of next semester where students are free and have more time to include the sport in their schedule,” said Uchegbu.

Experience with the sport or on ice isn’t needed, all you need to do is show up with a smile and a willingness to have fun. If interested in joining UWS Curling next semester, you can reach out to the club on Jacket’s Connect at the start of the Spring 2025 semester, email Uchegbu at cuchegbu@uwsuper.edu or the club’s advisor, Caitlin Dailey, at cdailey@uwsuper.edu.
