Kathy Christiansen, or just Kathy to most students, is a beloved figure on the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus. If you’ve been to the Yellowjacket Union in the last year, you probably know who I’m talking about.

For years, Kathy checked students into the YU Cafeteria. Many students will remember Kathy for her generosity and compassion towards student lives and interests.

When grabbing food from the Union Cafe, Kathy was the first face you saw, and no matter what kind of day you were having, she was always there to cheer you up. Even when it seemed like there were hundreds of people that she talked to every day, she always seemed to remember everyone’s name.
Her retirement party was held in the YU on October 10, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Everyone was invited to meet with Kathy, give their goodbyes, and share some cake and other desserts.
As a goodbye gift, Kathy was given a book filled with signatures and notes from hundreds of students and faculty wishing her a farewell. “Thank you so much”, Christiansen said. “Even if it was just a hello, I always just tried to make your day better.” Kathy proved over the years that even something as simple as a smile or a greeting can be enough to turn someone’s day around.
Towards the end of the party, Kathy pointed out that she didn’t live too far away and would always be here in the area. Even though UWS is sad to see her go, Kathy, and all that she’s done, will not be forgotten.
