The start of the soccer season for UW-Superiors men’s and women’s team started on familiar turf.
The new Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium that was set to open at the beginning of the fall semester, is still under construction. Crews began construction on April 25, 2024, after the groundbreaking ceremony.
Over the summer crews ran into a few delays which pushed back the grand opening of the stadium.

“As with any construction projects, we have had unplanned for weather and issues arise that have impacted the construction schedule. We have a great contractor in Northern Interstate that is working to ensure our teams are able to access the stadium yet this fall,” said Nick Bursik, director of athletics at UW-Superior.
With these delays both the men’s and women’s soccer teams have been playing their first few home games at NBC Spartan Sports Complex in Superior or Walt Hunting Stadium-Marv Heikkinen Field in Duluth.
The men’s soccer team is currently in first place in the conference with an overall record of 6-2-2. For the women’s team they are currently in first place with a recorded of 5-5 on the year.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for October 11, the day before the grand opening for the SCCU stadium, which is set for October 12 where men’s and women’s soccer will host Minnesota Morris in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference match up.
