The UW-Superior men’s and women’s teams will begin conference play after rounding out the first half of the spring season.

They will begin conference play on April 13 looking to secure a spot in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference tournament that will take place in May.

The men’s team has a record of 9-8 overall, and the women’s team record is 9-7 overall. With both teams having winning records, Coach Ceejay Schaffner is very pleased with how both teams have been doing so far.

“We’ve taken some steps and reached new heights on the court,” said Schaffner. “Our women have beat some teams that we have never beat before which has been exciting to see, and our men have been right there with regionally ranked teams for the first time in program history.”

Coach Ceejay also explained that there is plenty of talent on both teams. A big challenge he faces is making the starting lineup.

“We have players from top to bottom that can play throughout these spots,” said Schaffner. “This is a good challenge to have, and it has been great to see players take advantage of the opportunity when their name is called to be in the lineup.”

Brooke Wilfong, a sophomore on the women’s team this year, explained that the women’s team found success in their work ethic.

“We are all hard working and motivated,” said Wilfong. “We also figure out how to win points.”

The UWS tennis teams begin their conference play on the road against Northwestern on April 13.
