The sound of music filled campus to celebrate the ending of summer, the beginning of the new school year, and the success of the Superior Foundation’s “We are Superior” campaign.

Bayside Sounds Around Town, Big Dave, and the Ripples all came together for a rockin ‘outdoor performance that connected both students and community members. This free event had ice cream. Food, and refreshments provided by Chartwells and Sweden Sweets. As well as lawn activities like cornhole for people to enjoy.

“The University does a great job of welcoming the community. But sometimes maybe the community don’t have the connection to the university cause they don’t feel quite as comfortable as university students do. So it’s just one of the many events the university does to say ‘Welcome to campus, come enjoy us, and have a good time. Also the more traditional students that live on campus that maybe don’t know a lot about the community. Hopefully we’ll have that interface and give them some exposure to some residents that live in the area as well.” said Superior Director of the Parks and Recreations Linda Cadotte.

Organizers commented that this concert was more of a thank you to both students and community members on the $25 million raised for the Superior Foundation Campaign which surpassed their initial $20 million goal. The money raised will be used to support scholarships, undergraduate research opportunities, athletic programing, updates on facilities and more.
