Valentine’s Day brings many events to our campus and the community beyond. This year at UWS, there are two major events going on.

The first of these is an annual campus tradition in the Valentine’s Day Swing Dance. The dance, which has been hosted by the UWS Jazz Band, will feature songs and music by Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, and Woody Herman. The dance has been going on for more than ten years now, with the Yellowjacket Union recently allowing the use of all three sections of the Great Room for the growing attendance numbers of the dance.

In addition to the performance of the UWS Jazz Band, attendees may take swing lessons from Keith Miernicki of Twin Ports Dance. These lessons are included in the price of admission.

Tickets for the dance cost $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and is free for UWS students. The dance begins at 7:30 on Valentine’s Day in the YU Great Room.

The second event planned for Valentine’s Day is another mid-February tradition. The Ninth Annual Beer and Wine Showcase will be hosted again by Yellowjacket Athletics.

The event typically falls somewhere in the second week of February, and this year landed on Valentine’s Day allowing lucky couples a chance to participate in a beer and wine tasting for a reasonable price.

Tickets are $25 and proceeds benefit Yellowjacket Athletics. The event begins at 5:30 and goes until 8. It will be held at Barkers Island Inn in the Great Lakes Ballroom. For more information contact Jon Garver at jgarver@uwsuper.edu.

Valentine’s Day with the UWS Campus Community provides two exciting opportunities that you won’t want to miss out on with your sweetheart.
