The UW-Superior women’s basketball team recently took on their foes from across the bridge St. Scholastica. The former conference rivals have a series that dates back all the way to 1983 in which the Yellowjackets took the first matchup.

UWS has dominated much of the series between the two schools coming into the game with 40 wins and just 21 losses against CSS. In fact, before falling to the Saints last season UWS had a 19-game winning streak against the Saints which ran from 2011 to 2022.
Many of those matchups came when CSS was still a member of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. As previously mentioned, the Yellowjackets ended up dropping last season’s matchup to Saints 77-74 but this season they would look to get that win back.
Scoring started out slow for both the Saints and Yellowjackets as the first quarter would come to a close with the score being 6-6. The two teams would trade buckets back and forth until UWS seized control and wouldn’t look back.
UWS would take the lead into the half 30-18 lead and the second half would be a similar story to the second quarter as the Yellowjackets continued to build their lead. The final score of the game came to 72-50 with the Yellowjackets leading scorer being MyKenzie Leccia, who finished with 19 points.
The Yellowjackets were also helped by Elise Besonen and Kylee Hewitt who finished with 12 and 11 points respectively. The Yellowjackets now set their focus on finishing their non-conference portion of their schedule strong before they open up conference play on Jan. 8 against North Central.
