The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s and women’s golf teams are amongst those competing this spring. The men’s team has competed in five tournaments, finishing in the top ten on five of the seven days of competition. The highest they placed was sixth at the Martin Luther College Spring Invitational on April 25, 2024.

The women’s team has competed in three tournaments, finishing in the top ten each time. The highest they placed was third at the Martin Luther College Spring Invitational on April 25, 2024. What makes golf different is the spring season is just a warmup for next fall.

“All our matches in the spring season for us are Invites, so our scores don’t matter towards the conference since all those matches are played in the fall. But this spring will be nice and relaxing for us just to get out there and play,” said Junior Kenzie Tuura.

This spring season has been treating spring sports kindly. With record temperatures for this time of year, sports like golf have been able to spend more time outside practicing than they normally would.

“For this season I’m mainly just excited to get outside and golf. Our first match it was gorgeous out, so we had a great time just golfing and enjoying the weather,” said Tuura.

The men’s golf team goes into the spring preparing for the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships. Junior Nate Burke said, “We are trying our best to get our games in shape for the National tournament with the winter here we hit balls inside at the MWC (Marcovich Wellness Center), and now with the courses opening we are practicing outside, and playing tournaments to get prepared.”

This won’t be Burke’s first NCCA Division III Men’s Golf Championship. With him being a junior, he has the experience the rookies don’t have. “Being an upperclassman and playing in a national tournament before I think it’s been important to make the guys that haven’t played in this tournament before comfortable and excited for it,” said Burke.

The men’s golf team has a tournament coming up on May 4 at Bethel University before the Men’s Golf Championship scheduled for May 14-17.
