The University of Wisconsin Superior hosted the 2024 Upper Midwest Athletic Indoor Track and Field Championship on Feb. 23 and 24.
Both the women’s and men’s track and field took home first place at the UMAC meet. It’s the second time in a row for the women and the eighth time in a row for the men.
The women’s team had a slim lead over Northwestern on Friday but won by a convincing margin on Saturday.
Halle Barker won the conference championship in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 19:02.59. Although that is the only event the women came first in, they picked up key points in every event helping them to the conference championship.
The Yellowjacket women’s team set seven personal records and three season bests to finish off conference meets.
On the men’s side, the Yellowjacket men’s team racked up over 100 points on both Friday and Saturday.
Ethan Westimayer won the 400-meter dash on Friday. Michael Butterfield earned three individual titles from the two-day conference title meet. Nate Ohman picked up two conference titles during the weekend as well, his second title came from winning the weight throw. Jason Thomas not only won the conference championship but also set a personal best in pole vault.
The Yellowjackets had 16 personal records set at the meet.
The next meet for the men’s and women’s team is the Virginia Beach Spring Break Invitational.
