The Veteran and Nontraditional Student Center (VNSC) held You Got This!, an event over Zoom on Monday, December 4, designed to help students handle stress, manage coursework, manage time efficiently, and find peace during times of stress. Emails were sent to student inboxes to invite them to the Zoom event.

The seminar started at 7:00 p.m. and was held exclusively via Zoom to accommodate busy students. It was led by Toni Kramer, who shared various tips and tricks, some of which she also used as an undergraduate student. Kramer is the Administrative Assistant and Virtual Success Coach at the VNSC.

Some advice offered included writing down your weekly schedule with an hourly week planner from WorksheetWorks.com, which helps lay out exactly everything scheduled in your week and how much time there is left.

“We don’t remember to make time for things like cleaning; it’s also important to keep a healthy balance between work and relaxation,” said Kramer. She shared videos on breaking procrastination habits to increase productivity and cyclical breathing to promote relaxation.

Another helpful tip offered by Kramer was, at the beginning of each semester, to think of the first and second weeks of classes as one week combined. “

The first week of the semester usually goes over the syllabus and icebreaker discussions,” Kramer said. Students can give themselves an advantage by working ahead and starting on the second week’s assignments as soon as possible.

Kramer earned her undergraduate degree in Geoscience and Geophysics from UW-Madison and was a non-traditional parent student herself while earning this degree.
