After a long wait, Call of Duty has finally released its much-anticipated third game of the Modern Warfare remastered trilogy. The early Call of Duty campaigns epitomized first-person shooters for over a decade, however the newer releases have become stale, and somewhat of a ridiculed series due to the short duration, and the lack of substance throughout the story.
The one word I’d use to describe this campaign is ‘forgettable’. The graphics were unbelievable, and there were some fun missions throughout the story, but nothing that caught my attention as being new to the series.
The previous two campaigns had set up the return of Makarov, an evil Russian ultranationalist who is looking to start wars across nations. The nostalgia of seeing Makarov back in action was short-lived, quite literally, as the campaign seemed to only last three to four hours.
For the first time in franchise history, I would recommend against playing this year’s campaign. For the standard Call of Duty has set in the past, this is poor.
If you enjoy mindless gaming, and taking down bots for a few hours, then maybe it is worth your time, however the narrative lacked richness, and did not captivate me at all from start to finish.
The legacy of the Call of Duty campaigns is still being held up by the series from over a decade ago now; thankfully, the multiplayer aspect looks very strong this year, with Sledgehammer keen to attract fans back to what has looked like a dying game.
