The anticipation for a new addition on campus can finally be fulfilled. Friday, Oct. 11, marked an important day in history for the University of Wisconsin-Superior as the Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium officially opened its doors.
The SCCU Stadium is set to enhance the student athlete experience as well as benefit the community.
“I remember all the way back to 2018 when we were doing a needs assessment on the campus, and it was very clear that we needed a new field and needed it to be turfed,” said Dr. Renée Wachter, UWS Chancellor.

The stadium was built with the intention of housing both men’s and women’s soccer teams, as well as the men’s and women’s track and field teams. It will also support educational and recreational opportunities for all students that attend UWS.
The construction of the SCCU Stadium wasn’t a smooth ride the whole way through. There were some bumps in the road, but the finished product was worth the wait.
“It was great to have today to actually work out some of the kinks in the scoreboard. We have been practicing and testing everything out now for a good week or two as much as we can,” said Kristi Patterson, the recreation program director.
The men’s and women’s soccer teams have been practicing on the field but will officially be moved to SCCU after the ribbon cutting ceremony.
As for the men’s and women’s track and field teams, they will have to wait as the track has not been completed.
The day after the ribbon cutting ceremony, both men’s and women’s soccer teams competed against the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars.
